Scrapbooking Adventures

As some of you may know I have a friend in Atlanta named Lauren. She is a FANTASTIC artist. She can make ordinary things extraordinary. I have appointed myself as her manager. I seem to get her volunteered into all kinds of things when it comes to scrapbooking. When she decided that she wanted to cut and tear paper for a living I had to give her a shove. Sometimes she looses focus like “Dory” on Finding Nemo. Anyway.. I keep getting her into all kinds of stuff and you know I think she is finally having fun.
So… back during the summer at CHA for all you non crafters it is the biggest Craft & Hobby show ever. It is where retailers go to buy there stuff for the season. She met a lady named Leann that owns Everyday Scrap. Leann sets up a booth at Scrapbook Conventions all over the US. She was coming to Huntsville, AL in the fall and asked Lauren to work the booth. Lauren said yes and that she had friends that were coming could they help. Also Lauren had already signed up to teach classes at that convention. So October came and we all went to Huntsville and had a blast working the booth. Leann could not believe the extra $$ she made with having more people in the booth helping her sell. So she decided that she wanted to take us with her wherever she goes. So Lauren is teaching at most all of the shows that Leann is attending and I am going to quite a few to work the booth…. Well at least that was the plan. Leann has a partner and sometimes there is more than one convention in the same weekend so they have to be in two places at once. Well.. Leann double booked Lauren on teaching. The weekend of March 27-30 Lauren needed to be in Columbus, OH & Madison, WI. So I was “voluntold” that I am teaching her classes in Madison, WI that weekend while she goes to Columbus. YIKES…. I was like WHAT !! I am doing WHAT???!!! That was exactly what I said when I called her. She laughed and told me it would be just fine. As the time approaches I am getting excited about the class. Nervous about the plane flight alone but as Lauren would say put your big girl panties on and get to steppin. Lauren is coming to my house on March 21st so that we can go over all the projects so that I am not lost. Oh… and come to find out she is double booked again in May so…. I am off to Michigan in May to teach. At least these are paying jobs so I will make some $$ so that I can pay some bills. Here are a couple of links to the conventions that I am teaching at for Lauren. Check out the classes section and look for the ones with the teacher AMY and sponsored by EVERYDAY SCRAP. Thanks to Lauren I am getting my 15 minutes of fame. Do you think everyone in the classes will be surprised after looking at the samples that have little black kids in the photos and then I show up to teach? Go ahead laugh... I told Lauren someone would say something... and yes Lauren got and email from someone who she met while teaching last year. The lady says "Lauren there is some lady named Amy that is using your stuff!!" We both got a big laugh and I told Lauren.. see I told you so!!

Locks of Love

Katie has been growing her hair for several years now so that she could donate it to Locks of Love. It has finally gotten long enough to cut off the minimum amount of 10 inches off. She was so excited that the day had finally arrived. She already knew exactly how she wanted her hair cut. We arrived at Creative Images at 5:00 for her appointment. Susan who always cuts our families hair was honored to be able to cut it for such a good cause. As you can see by the pics she is happy. By the time it was all over Katie actually has 11 inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love. She has not stopped playing with her new hair doo since she got it cut.

I talked to a lady at the newspaper and she told me to email her the pics and she would get it in the Hixson Community News that comes out on Wednesday's. If she gets her 5 min of fame in the paper I will be sure to post it.

Life is just kickin my rear!

There is just simply not enough time in the day. I physically can not get everything I need done in the time I have been given. 4th grade is HARD!!! Katie is struggling and I just don't know what to do. We spent tonight from 7:00 pm -10:00 pm working on homework. During that time I worked on getting everything together so that we can go get our taxes done. I put a load of laundry in to wash. Ifinished getting Katie's clothes she has outgrown ready to go to the consignment sale tomorrow. I put a pot roast on to cook tonight for dinner tomorrow. Oh and I also paid this months bills. I had the BIG bosses in at work today and had to take care of them and also one of the girls in the office was out today because her grandmother died. So I had to do part of her job today too. I just need a mental health day. I just for once want to be caught up on everything.

OH YES! VEGAS BABY!!

I had the best time in VEGAS! I definately want to go back again. I would even go back again on the whirlwind 24 tour. It was fun! I recommend it. Just don't try to go into every casino on the strip. I have no idea how far we walked but it had to be miles, and miles. I am hooked. I just liked walking around looking at everything. I am soo happy that we went even though I was only there 24 hours. We arrived on Monday night Feb. 4 at around midnight. After a crazy taxi ride to our hotel Bally's, we checked in. Thanks to my friend Edna and her players card they upgraded our room. We got there thinking it would be just a standard room. But NOOOO... it was a HUGE room with a king size bed and jacuzzi tub! We got settled in and then went downstairs to gamble a little... after all we are in VEGAS!! It is true the city never sleeps. Wade sat at a 25 cent machine and put in $20.00. He bet about 5 times and then hit and won $120.00. He said thats it I am cashing out and we are going to bed.

The next morning we got up and out on the strip early. We had breakfast at Denny's and then started the day. Did I say that we walked from one end of the strip to the other.....

Ok I have a few favorite hotels. I love the Venetian. It is soo pretty. I want to go back and take the Gondola ride. I also want to go to Madame Truesseu's Wax Museaum. I liked Caesar's Palace too. I wish we had been able to see the show in front of Treasure Island. The fountains at the Bellagio were FAB!! It was so pretty. Finally my 2 favorites... I love New York New York and Paris. I could spend my whole time in both of those. I love the atmosphere at both of these places.
Looks like I need to go again...... (Edna start watching the airline again....)

Scavenger Hunt

Ok so my friend Edna got us into it again. Their church had a scavenger hunt last Saturday afternoon. We all met at the church and were given a list of items to either bring back or take pictures of. Here are a few pics of our journey that day. One stop was at the Carousel downtown. We had to get a picture of the cat. Next we had to find the brick boat downtown and we all had to be in the picture. The last picture we had to have a tea party at English Rose. We had a great time. I really thought we had a shot at winning. After we got back at the votes were tallied.... we were just not good enough. We will give it another try again next year.

Weekend with "The Girls"

I just got back from my weekend with "THE GIRLS". We had soo much fun! We went to Ft. Yargo in Winder, GA to scrapbook from Thursday night until Sunday night. I forgot my camera. (I know, I am a scrapbooker how could I do that!! I should be ashamed) This pic was taken with my phone. This is my friend Teresa. We had soo much fun over the weekend. Couldn't we pass for sisters! I have found my long lost twin.

As always it was a ton a laughs. Lauren was as crazy as always. You would need to read her blog about the incident with her pants. She tells the story so much better than I can.

We don't have another weekend planned anytime soon. Lauren starts teaching in February and her weekends are taken. We will have to plan in advance for everyone to get together again. I know we will go to Knoxville in April for the yard sale at Scrapbooks & More.

Phone News!

Well as the pictures can tell ... Katie now has a cell phone. Do you think she is excited? Of course the Princess had to get a pink one.
There is a reason behind getting it. It was just not practical to have a home phone. We were spending $35 a month for something that rang maybe 5 times a month. So we had the phone phone disconnected. So for all you friends and family out there you will need to call Wade, Amy, Katie & Chris on our cell phones. It was only $10.00 more added to the cell phone bill for Katie to have a phone. There are many restrictions to the phone. 1st she can only talk to the people Mommy programmed in her phone. All the family, etc... Also she can talk to friends that have Verizon since those calls are free. 2nd ..No text messaging. I think for a while we will be fine since she does not know how to do all of that stuff. 3rd.. the phone does not go with her to school. She can take it when she goes to the grandparents, aunts, uncles, & friends house but she must keep up with it. If she looses it .. too bad it is gone.
Looks like my little girl is turning into a little lady.

SNOW!!!

Yes!! Snow on New Years Day!! I love it! Katie and I love snow. Mom called about 9:00 saying it was snowing at her house. I thought she had lost her mind. I looked outside and there was nothing. About 15 min later I looked again and it had started to snow. I was just a dusting but still enough to make snowballs from what laid on the porch. Katie got all her snow gear on and went out to play. Wade could not resist going out and throwing snowballs at her. If only we had gotten more......

Christmas Morning

Well I think that Katie had a great Christmas. Santa was good to her as always. Katie is taking guitar lessons now so Wade & I got her a guitar case with pink flames put on it. She wanted the one at the store with red flames but I thought pink ones fit her better. This was the year that she was really into clothes. She loves shopping at Limited Too. She got several game boy games too. Along with a Webkinz. We are very fortunate to have such a good girl that really appreciates everything she gets no matter how big or small.

Christmas 2007

Merry Christmas from the family!! Christmas with the Wood's was great this year! We met on Christmas Eve for lunch. We had a wonderful time. We are so glad that Nick made it in town for the holidays. Lauren & John went to visit his family in North Carolina. We missed you guys!

Merry Christmas from all of us!

WOW!!

I am finally getting to go to VEGAS!!! Our friends Edna & Whit found a deal on flights. Only $110 total for Wade and I round trip to Vegas from Atlanta. I am so excited. We leave on Feb. 4th and return on Feb. 6th. I know it is not long but just long enough so that Wade doesn't go crazy. He hates crowds, etc. I think he is allergic to fun.

I cannot believe that it has been since November that I posted. We were so busy with football and school that I just have not had time. The holidays are going to be fun. After Friday I am off until Jan. 2nd. Maybe then I will have time to get caught up on some things I need to do. I am hoping to get my kitchen painted while I am on vacation.

I have lots going on for the new year. Once I get my thoughts together I will get it on here.

I hope everyone has a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Senior Night Football Game

Pics of us at Senior Night. Chris looks like he has lost his best friend. We can never get a smile out of him. He got to be one of the Captains that night at the game. GO BUCS!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Katie decided to be a Midnight Witch. I just couldn't put the black makeup on such a pretty face. Maybe next year she will go back to being a Princess. And yes Katie's hair has gotten that long. There were several people that thought it was a wig.

Our friends Clint, Jennifer & Summer came over a visited before we started trick or treating. They always dress up when they take Summer out.

Katie is 10!!!

I cannot believe that Katie is 10! She is growing up so fast. My little girl is becomming a young lady. These are pics that were taken on 10/17/07 her actual birthday. She wanted to go eat dinner at Ryan's. She had dinner with Nannie, Bubba, Mom and Dad. Her birthday gift from Mom and Dad was guitar lessons. She went on Thursday for her first lesson and did great. She was so excited. On Saturday she had a party at the house with 6 girls. We rented an inflatable and the girls had a great time. There were 4 of them that spent the night. (I am so glad there is only 1 birthday a year.) Everytime I let her have girls over to spend the night I ask myself why I keep doing this. They had a great time!

Funny for the day..

Ok some of you may know my friend Lauren from ATL. She is crazy. She is always suprising everyone and doing crazy stuff. Well this time she got it. Katie and I drove to ATL today to suprise her. She had no clue it was great! The look on her face when we pulled up was priceless. She has been under a lot of stress lately with getting her basement finished. Katie and I went down to help her out for the day. She has a GREAT new scrapbook room! I LOVE her shelves. I ended up scraping paint off windows and hanging her curtains. Everything is looking good. Our friend Teresa came down today to spend a couple of weeks with her. She is going to help Lauren go through all her stuff and get organized. Maybe they will come to my house and help me. My scrap room needs major help.

Life is always an adventure!

Well yesterday Wade called me from work saying that he was having problems breathing and his arm was numb. I immediately left work and went and pick him up and we went to the ER. For Wade to ask to go to the doctor I knew he was sick. Long story short... after being in the ER from 11:30-5:30 and 1 xray, 1 cat scan and 2 breathing treatments later... he has a bacterial infection in his lungs. They have him on an inhaler, steroids & antibiotics. The doctor said he should be just fine. Next time his sinuses start draining he will listen to me and take some medicine. That is what they think caused the infection. Men... what do are we suppose to do with them?

Is there a DOCTOR in the house!!

Ok all you moms out there. Here is a tip that may save you a lot of heartache. ALWAYS check the seams on a stuffed animal or doll before you put them in the washing machine!!! As you can see Katie's build a bear has an open wound. I came home from an auction tonight and Wade yells at me from downstairs to come and look. I come down the stairs and he asks me what are we going to do about this. Is there a doctor that can fix it. The bear even lost the heart they put in there. I washed the bear last night with a load of towels. Wade had come down to change them over and found this. He took everything out of the washer and piled it on the sink. He cleaned out the washer and walked out of the laundry room for me to perform surgery. FYI... they put a whole lot of stuffing in this bear. It is everywhere. I am having to shake off the towels into the sink and put the stuffing back in. After that the towels will go back in the wash and maybe all the fuzz will come off. I am hoping to get it sewed up and Katie be none the wiser. I hope this piece of advice will save someone else from having to do open butt surgery on a bear.
Right after all this happened I had to call my friend Lauren. She proceeds to tell me to get off the phone and get my camera and post on my blog. I hope she realizes that not all the crazy stuff happens to just her.
