Scrapbooking Adventures

As some of you may know I have a friend in Atlanta named Lauren. She is a FANTASTIC artist. She can make ordinary things extraordinary. I have appointed myself as her manager. I seem to get her volunteered into all kinds of things when it comes to scrapbooking. When she decided that she wanted to cut and tear paper for a living I had to give her a shove. Sometimes she looses focus like “Dory” on Finding Nemo. Anyway.. I keep getting her into all kinds of stuff and you know I think she is finally having fun.
So… back during the summer at CHA for all you non crafters it is the biggest Craft & Hobby show ever. It is where retailers go to buy there stuff for the season. She met a lady named Leann that owns Everyday Scrap. Leann sets up a booth at Scrapbook Conventions all over the US. She was coming to Huntsville, AL in the fall and asked Lauren to work the booth. Lauren said yes and that she had friends that were coming could they help. Also Lauren had already signed up to teach classes at that convention. So October came and we all went to Huntsville and had a blast working the booth. Leann could not believe the extra $$ she made with having more people in the booth helping her sell. So she decided that she wanted to take us with her wherever she goes. So Lauren is teaching at most all of the shows that Leann is attending and I am going to quite a few to work the booth…. Well at least that was the plan. Leann has a partner and sometimes there is more than one convention in the same weekend so they have to be in two places at once. Well.. Leann double booked Lauren on teaching. The weekend of March 27-30 Lauren needed to be in Columbus, OH & Madison, WI. So I was “voluntold” that I am teaching her classes in Madison, WI that weekend while she goes to Columbus. YIKES…. I was like WHAT !! I am doing WHAT???!!! That was exactly what I said when I called her. She laughed and told me it would be just fine. As the time approaches I am getting excited about the class. Nervous about the plane flight alone but as Lauren would say put your big girl panties on and get to steppin. Lauren is coming to my house on March 21st so that we can go over all the projects so that I am not lost. Oh… and come to find out she is double booked again in May so…. I am off to Michigan in May to teach. At least these are paying jobs so I will make some $$ so that I can pay some bills. Here are a couple of links to the conventions that I am teaching at for Lauren. Check out the classes section and look for the ones with the teacher AMY and sponsored by EVERYDAY SCRAP. Thanks to Lauren I am getting my 15 minutes of fame. Do you think everyone in the classes will be surprised after looking at the samples that have little black kids in the photos and then I show up to teach? Go ahead laugh... I told Lauren someone would say something... and yes Lauren got and email from someone who she met while teaching last year. The lady says "Lauren there is some lady named Amy that is using your stuff!!" We both got a big laugh and I told Lauren.. see I told you so!!

Locks of Love

Katie has been growing her hair for several years now so that she could donate it to Locks of Love. It has finally gotten long enough to cut off the minimum amount of 10 inches off. She was so excited that the day had finally arrived. She already knew exactly how she wanted her hair cut. We arrived at Creative Images at 5:00 for her appointment. Susan who always cuts our families hair was honored to be able to cut it for such a good cause. As you can see by the pics she is happy. By the time it was all over Katie actually has 11 inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love. She has not stopped playing with her new hair doo since she got it cut.

I talked to a lady at the newspaper and she told me to email her the pics and she would get it in the Hixson Community News that comes out on Wednesday's. If she gets her 5 min of fame in the paper I will be sure to post it.

Life is just kickin my rear!

There is just simply not enough time in the day. I physically can not get everything I need done in the time I have been given. 4th grade is HARD!!! Katie is struggling and I just don't know what to do. We spent tonight from 7:00 pm -10:00 pm working on homework. During that time I worked on getting everything together so that we can go get our taxes done. I put a load of laundry in to wash. Ifinished getting Katie's clothes she has outgrown ready to go to the consignment sale tomorrow. I put a pot roast on to cook tonight for dinner tomorrow. Oh and I also paid this months bills. I had the BIG bosses in at work today and had to take care of them and also one of the girls in the office was out today because her grandmother died. So I had to do part of her job today too. I just need a mental health day. I just for once want to be caught up on everything.

OH YES! VEGAS BABY!!

I had the best time in VEGAS! I definately want to go back again. I would even go back again on the whirlwind 24 tour. It was fun! I recommend it. Just don't try to go into every casino on the strip. I have no idea how far we walked but it had to be miles, and miles. I am hooked. I just liked walking around looking at everything. I am soo happy that we went even though I was only there 24 hours. We arrived on Monday night Feb. 4 at around midnight. After a crazy taxi ride to our hotel Bally's, we checked in. Thanks to my friend Edna and her players card they upgraded our room. We got there thinking it would be just a standard room. But NOOOO... it was a HUGE room with a king size bed and jacuzzi tub! We got settled in and then went downstairs to gamble a little... after all we are in VEGAS!! It is true the city never sleeps. Wade sat at a 25 cent machine and put in $20.00. He bet about 5 times and then hit and won $120.00. He said thats it I am cashing out and we are going to bed.

The next morning we got up and out on the strip early. We had breakfast at Denny's and then started the day. Did I say that we walked from one end of the strip to the other.....

Ok I have a few favorite hotels. I love the Venetian. It is soo pretty. I want to go back and take the Gondola ride. I also want to go to Madame Truesseu's Wax Museaum. I liked Caesar's Palace too. I wish we had been able to see the show in front of Treasure Island. The fountains at the Bellagio were FAB!! It was so pretty. Finally my 2 favorites... I love New York New York and Paris. I could spend my whole time in both of those. I love the atmosphere at both of these places.
Looks like I need to go again...... (Edna start watching the airline again....)

Scavenger Hunt

Ok so my friend Edna got us into it again. Their church had a scavenger hunt last Saturday afternoon. We all met at the church and were given a list of items to either bring back or take pictures of. Here are a few pics of our journey that day. One stop was at the Carousel downtown. We had to get a picture of the cat. Next we had to find the brick boat downtown and we all had to be in the picture. The last picture we had to have a tea party at English Rose. We had a great time. I really thought we had a shot at winning. After we got back at the votes were tallied.... we were just not good enough. We will give it another try again next year.
